United Nations Sustainable
When we created our sustainability strategy two years ago, our work was informed by an
analysis of the issues affecting our business and a survey of our stakeholders’ opinions as
to the relative importance of each of those issues. The stakeholders included customers,
suppliers, investors, commercial partners, non-governmental organisations and policymakers.
The diagram to the right highlights the priorities identified within each sustainability
pillar.
Our sustainability strategy is always evolving to meet future challenges and we are
committed to enhancing our approach, so that we take into account the expectations of
external stakeholders and the needs of the business
Mental Health & Wellbeing
Stress, depression and mental health issues are unfortunately increasingly common in the UK.
Around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. Alongside
initiatives to promote physical good health and financial wellbeing, mental health is
central to the Group's Wellbeing strategy. We know that companies that prioritise employee
engagement and wellbeing outperform others.
Encouraging our employees to talk openly about
mental health can make a real difference to maintaining a healthy workplace, providing early
intervention and support where needed and retaining the talented people we need to make the
business a success.
The Group's aim is for our employees to feel trusted and empowered to make adult choices.
This creates a positive proactive culture which allows employees to flourish and achieve
their full potential, from the moment they join us and throughout their career.
Accounting Service
Coming out of the pandemic we wanted to harness the benefits of remote working and seize
opportunities in areas of the country where we have traditionally not been able to recruit.
At the start of the year we piloted a remote customer service apprentice scheme, targeting
social mobility cold spots in Derby, Mansfield, Hastings and Crawley
where we relaxed
traditional recruitment criteria so that we assessed candidates less on professional
experience and with a greater focus on panel-based assessment.
